Contradiction 4
Food delivery makes people more lazy
My forth contradiction is that food delivery makes
people lazier. This is a contradiction because it is a service that is meant to
make life easier for us, but it is actually doing more harm to people than
good.
When doing research into this topic I realised that
it is not just an issue with food deliveries but with these types of services
in general, such as UBER, Postmates and Deliveroo.
Research
In America there is an app or service for
virtually anything, such as Postmates for food or shopping, Homejoy for
cleaning your house, and HopSkipDrive to take your kids to and from school.
One UBER driver even said:
“On my most recent outing, I
was preparing for take-off and noticed that my GPS was telling me the
destination was only one minute away. I confirmed the location with my
passenger and she said, "I have a car, but sometimes it takes me a
couple minutes to find parking, and what's the point if it's only
$4?"
With on-demand products it has become ‘Now, or I
go to the next guy’ when it used to be ‘Within a day, or week’.
In 2015, Amazon launched a button that when
pressed will order and buy a certain product for you.
The buttons currently come for:
- - Tide
- - Gatorade
- - Fiji
water
- - Larabars
- - Trojan
condoms
- - Kraft
mac and cheese
Due to all these services being readily
available for everyone it means that people are less inclined to leave their
houses, or really do anything for themselves.
