Presentation prep

Prepping for the presentation Since the pitch needs 500 words altogether, I decided to write something for each of the pages. We have 6 pages to fill, which averages 83 words per page. Everything written in brackets is what is on the slides currently, could be ideas for what to write.  These are just the original idea for the presentation made by Luke; however, we will probably change the whole PowerPoint. Glen also has to add extra slides for the 3D designing. Pitch overview (122 words) (The central debate and what we came up with to create a solution) Our topic that we were given was the effects of technology in education. With this topic we thought of ways that we could incorporate the topic into our actual lives as we are currently in education, so this is aimed towards us directly.  We had the idea of since our course is moving rooms and campus, we thought that it would be a good idea to design how that room could become the ‘perfect’ classroo...

Making the course book

Image
Me and Sophie began to make the course booklet by designing it together on Tuesday the 30 th of April. We designed the basic layout of the booklet and chose some design aspects we wanted to include. Then I took the file and added the images and text into the pages, I used the quotes from the video we found, and the bulk of the text was from what Luke sent me. I used images from pieces of work that we did as they were the only ones available to me.  Sophie then sent me an updated layout, so I merged our two bits of work together to make the final layout. I then wrote some text about the new workspace, including a quote from me about it, so that we would have some writing that is relevant to the pages included on them. I then also found some text from the Salford website on how to apply for the course, I adapted this and used it for the page.

Writing for the course book

Workplace pages: We recently had a renovation of our workroom, to create the perfect environment for working and learning. We are striving to create a home away from home for our students and make them feel as comfortable as possible. Our workspace is specially laid out and to encourage group collaboration, as this is an important aspect of the course.  We worked very hard to design a room that would be an open, eco-friendly room that makes the students want to do work.  Our room offers specialised tables for group projects, access to iMac’s and Wacom tablets, as well as a soft area full of bean bags and couches to allow the students to have more relaxed work areas. We also allow access to other technological advancements that are useful for any future careers in media, such as VR, AR, etc.  Scan this QR code to do a 3D room tour of our new workspace. Apprenticeship research

Image
I looked into what apprenticeships are this is what I found: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/787717/Guide-to-Apprenticeships-260219-LR.pdf What’s an apprenticeship?  Anapprenticeshipisagenuinejobandunderallcircumstancesanapprenticewillbe employed from day one. Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study.  An apprentice will:  -        work alongside experienced staff  -         gain job-specific skills  -        earn a wage and get holiday pay  -        be given time for study related to their role (the equivalent of one day a week)  Why apply?  -         Earn a real wage;  -         Be trained in the skills employers want;  - ...

We also did another questionnaire to get information about technology in education from people in any course, not just from our course like the other questionnaire.  These are the questions and answers:

We did a questionnaire to find out what people outside of our group but on our course answered some questions. These are the questions and answers:

Meeting 30/04/2019

Image
Today we all met up and decided upon some stuff for our products. Me and Sophie worked on the course book, we chose to add dashes as we noticed that they were used on lots of the walls around the university building, so it would tie into the style of uni. We also worked on the layout and how it transferred from paper to XD, as well as adding hints of yellow into the pages. For instance, we tried to put the yellow behind the dashes on the first page, as well as the text, basically we just played around and chose which one we liked best. While me and Sophie worked on the course book, Glen and Luke worked on the layout of the room. They chose this:  We then decided on how we were going to do the presentation. We chose to start it by doing a timeline style thing, where we each spoke about the journey through University, from choosing it from college, to people’s experiences while there, to the changing in learning, and finally the changing in environment. We would then go ...

Color scheme and logo adaption

Image
To decide on the color scheme I made some variations on photoshop and we chose which one we were going to use as a group. I liked the idea of it being white, grey and black with a pop of yellow, this is because it is an easy color scheme to incorporate, and it is quite a popular color scheme at the moment.    We chose to use the 4 st color scheme but with the 1 th yellow, instead of the 4 th one, because we found that when we started to use that color it was too bright, which made it difficult to use on the course book.  Since we changed the color scheme we thought that we couldn’t leave the logo as red. So, I changed parts of it to match our new color scheme, such as the chain at the top, and some of the red flowers on the bottom part.  I also looked for and collected examples of people from this course's work. I did this by asking people in my group, looking on our Facebook group, and off of a powerpoint presentation Mark gave me.

Interview of people that didn't go to uni

I then decided to interview two people that I know that decided to not go to university.  The first one is one of my friends called Jaime, he was born in 2000 and finished college in 2018. I asked him his reasons for not going to university and he told me that when it was time for him to finish his UCAS application, he realised he did not know what he wanted to do, so he thought it would be better to take a gap year and maybe decide within that year. However, over that year he realised that uni wasn’t for him, and that he would prefer to just get a job.  The other person that I interviewed was one of my other friends called Josh, he was born in 2000 and finished college in 2018. I asked him why he decided to not go to university and he told me that he chose to do an apprenticeships instead as he liked that it was paid education, and he was getting direct experience in the industry that he wanted to work in. Also he got a job guaranteed out of doing it.  I f...

Quotes and text for casebook

I found a video from the Salford Uni website; the video is about our course. I watched the video and took quotes from it to use in the course book that we are making.  “The one thing that really inspires us to take on students is not generally their technical ability it’s their drive and determination and where they want to go” –  Mark Scargrill “In my experience the teachers have been really friendly. They helped with not just your actual development in work but also personal development, having a lot more confidence, speaking up, and just being comfortable around people you haven’t met before.” –  Ewan Doran “They’ve really pushed us to be better as professionals” –  Ewan Doran “The thing I like most about this course is that it’s not specific to one media. So, we get to work along the whole range of them.” –  Tara Turnpenny Luke send us this for the course book, it is off of the salford website and has been edited slightly: COURSE SUM...
