VR health concerns
Glen had the idea to get rid of school all together and instead have just a VR school, where you have the headset at home and use it instead of going to school. However, I wanted to look into the health concerns of using VR.
Some side effects of using VR are:
-Loss of special awareness
-Dizziness and disorientation
-Seizures
-Nausea
-Eye soreness
One of the biggest concerns with VR is how close you are to a screen; however, the American Academy of Ophthalmology says there is no evidence that long exposure to screens can cause permanent damage.
For each of the types of VR headsets I found that the age limit was 13 years old. This would not work to replace schools, since it would be needed for children below the ages of 13 as well.
According to the creators of the oculus rift you should take 10-15 minutes off every 30 minutes of use. This would also be bad for schools, as the students need to be able to do work or communicate with teachers longer than 30 mins without a break.
