Reasons other people didn't go to university research

I found an article called ‘Why I didn’t go to university!’ from the website ‘NGTU’ by Kelly Pritchard on the 15thof November 2013.

The article said ‘I only know a handful of people who go to university that actually know what they want to do and getting a degree is one step closer to the dreams and hopes they have. However, from what I've seen and heard, university is something that is over expensive, time consuming and potentially soul destroying to young people who haven't discovered their talents as it can put them in the 'not bothering' mindset.’

-Smart and tenacious people will waste 3 years of their life when they could have been learning useful stuff in the real world.

-Average people will be helped in the short term, but at the cost of £50,000 or so of debts and spending most of their 20s and 30s paying it off, when instead they might have been discovering how not to be an average person.

‘all the teachers and staff just seemed to try and channel the idea of university into our minds and potentially make us believe that if you didn’t attend uni then your life wasn’t going to be great.’

If you have a clear goal such as a doctor or a lawyer, then by all means go to university! But please don't use it as scapegoat for an easy life. Apprenticeships is the best pathway opposed to uni, as you are getting qualifications, earning money and gaining experience at the same time, it's also a great way to get a real first hand feel of a workplace and the people you would potentially be working alongside with!’

I also found a blog post by Emily Clarkson from April 20th, 2018. The article was about why she decided not to go to university.

I grew up thinking that if you didn’t go to university, you were probably not going to achieve much with your life. Although neither of my parents had gone, I was lead to believe that times had changed (they have btw) and my school didn’t do anything to change my mind. I spent my school years working so that I could go to university, that was the point of school I thought.’

She states the reason that she didn’t end up going to university is because she did not get good enough grades, so she decided that she would re-apply the next year. However, in the year that she had off she realised that university was not what she wanted to do.
